little personal win

Hi all I considered not posting this here...but just can't help myself. After 28 years of smoking about a pack a day...sometimes as many as two and a half packs a day for a short while...I'm happy to report that I haven't smoked a cigarette since last Wednesday. Now is the time for me to openly admi...

OK, here in Phoenix, we have spring, HELL, HELL, again, and fall. (And, about 45 minutes of weak winter.) We've already had days in the upper '90s, THIS year. (Monday, Tues and Wed, will be in the upper '70s though. Hell doesn't start until mid May, but sometimes lasts until Halloween.) When I live...

Thanks bill... that is exactly what I want to do...well, sort of. I was hoping to use a material that is harder than the brass tube, so I would have a durable surface that I wouldn't have to refresh. I also do not have a screw chuck... I'm thinking of making one that can chuck into the drill chuck.....

Geez... I should really learn how to search better:confused: This came up recently (late last year) and at that point it was discovered that the gizmo I want just doesn't exist. :( So it appears I will have to commission the guys at work to make one...or buy a router chuck and use the router center ...

turning between centers

Hi all... I am considering "losing" my pen mandrel and bushings and turn pens between centers. I've read that it will produce 'rounder' barrels and also more accurately sized barrels...since I'll be measuring them with a calipers. Keep in mind I still have to figure out what dimension to t...

Nicely done birdhouses!

As the more seasoned users here have taught me, I like to look beyond the subject in the picture and notice some things in the background.

Your shop looks great! How about a virtual tour?

Thanks

The mounting screw is really a dual threaded stud with a 3/8-16 hex nut on one end. Put the hex nut on the end if the stud and add the washer stack. The washer stack is comprised of 3/8 flat washers and spring washers. From the nut it goes flat, spring, flat, spring, flat. Hold the washer stack to t...

We froze & brought with us about 20 bags of sweet corn on the cob. I also have a Pine tree that is loaded with nasty cones that make a mess in the yard. Also I have a Cyprus tree root ball (about the size of a soccer ball) that may make interesting pens. I was going to try to make a bowl or som...
