Thanks for the pictures, EagleTa2! One comment about your statement about sharpening the jointer knives: "I hope the regular disk with a Velcro kit will work OK." I don't think the Velcro disks are a good choice for sharpening steel- too much "give", and the knives may well catc...

Looks like a great start...I just did this to my jointer...but I didn't have the rust issue. Make sure to clean the bearing surfaces on the indeed and out feed tables... I used jpw on these sliding surfaces and then hit them with a light dusting of graphite. I also applied graphite to the treads on ...

You want pine cones??? I got pine cones out the ......well, you know. Not sure if these are the right size. Right now this time of year, they are somewhat wet and closed up. Probably will need to dry out. Let me know if these will work and how many you ...

WOW I didn't realize corn was that high. Did I miss out big time when I lived in either Nebraska or Iowa? Should I have been scavenging for corn cobs? In both places, I lived right in the midst of the corn fields. In Iowa, I lived in a fifth wheel parked in a trailer park in Amana. It was corn ever...

pine cone and corn cob

Hi all... I really want to make pine cone and corn cob pens and am looking for some insight... For the pine cone: There are no pine cones in phoenix...at least none that are large enough to have a solid core that I can make a pen blank from. I'm not really looking to purchase a $10 pine cone to try ...

Uh oh. I was having such fun working on it that I didn't take any pictures...

However, its not much work to split the indeed/out feed tables so I will plan on doing so and take some pics if time permits...

Thanks,

So... I've contacted woodworker's source in Tempe...and according to them, they can sharpen them for a whopping $.75 per inch...so $9 total. I think what I'll do is get them sharpened the first time and then keep them touched up in the jointer. If I do need to remove them to sharpen I will make the ...
