Re: Heads up folks
Thank you for this alert. Another round of non-refuseable bandaid "updates" on the way from Bill. Really not much to be done since Microsoft is the de facto global software supplier. Software is an amazing commodity. The more defective it is the more is sold. Defective software? Well we wi...

Re: A few things you might want for yourself
I don't own one of these but I can think of many cases where a few could come in handy (lifting radiators, ovens, furniture, benches etc). Looks like a good stocking stuffer to me.
Anyone own /use this type of device?

Re: Garage Doors
"Epoxy is very, very susceptible to UV breakdown. You should give those doors at least two coats of a good marine grade varnish" Yes, that is the next worry, and I should get some anti-UV coating on before summer. It's weird that I should have to put varnish over epoxy. Now I worry about ...

Garage Doors
Sorry about using PDF to attach pictures, but this forum won't take anything over 3MB and most of the pictures exceed that. Garage door rebuild. My second go-round on fabbing new garage doors. Original (1950's vintage) rollup doors lasted for many years but eventually they fell apart so in 2016-17 I...

Re: Share your Magna memorabilia!
Yes, the book I read was old even when I read it and it had Shopsmith Mark V pictures, so must not have been the dal Fabbo book. I remember that the author had an Italian surname...

Re: Share your Magna memorabilia!
I think it was in that dal Fabbro book (see photo elsewhere in this thread) where I first saw Shopsmith tools in action. Borrowed that book from the public library. Must have been 50 years ago. Dreamed about owning a Shopsmith until 1987 when I finally bought one - after buying my first house and at...

Re: Stanton Dog Locks
I do not own or have used a track saw guide, but they look useful. I take it that a dog lock device is not available from the track saw mfgr?
I saw the Stanton video. He used a circular saw that cuts in both push and pull directions. How does that saw work? Special blade? Reverse rotation?

Re: Varnishing a Handrail
Saw some of the DIY wipe-on videos. There are a ton of them on Youtube! Very motivated to try this finish because it seems to be the exact solution for the run/drip problem. Thanks for advising about this. I saw one wipe-on video which used a three-part poly + thinner + boiled linseed oil combinatio...

Re: Varnishing a Handrail
Thanks everyone for the input. I should have put this question in the woodworking forum... I should mention that the varnish was Minwax Helmsman polyurethane oil, over analine dye. I have used this varnish for years on floors and interior trim and it never let me down before. I did try to use the ve...

Varnishing a Handrail
I recently fabbed and installed the 8 foot long handrail shown in the attached picture. I used common Home Depot stock material. Good enough. Varnishing turned out to be a challenge. Handrails are typically long, and every surface is to be varnished with no drips, runs etc. Holding the work became t...
