Re: Parts for "new" 1987 510

I think the Shopsmith leg (referring just to the leg, # 514529) is already a friction-cam mechanism. The good thing about them is they will lock at any length within the range. I have had no trouble getting them to lock - just need both hands to do it. You do not want an adjustable leg that locks on...

Re: Parts for "new" 1987 510

Have a look at McMaster # 4698T96. I need two of those "speed-rail' type fittings ( long ago I bought two of 555627 leg kits but i just found out they only fit a model 500). Shopsmith will sell me ONE tube fitting for $47.43. No thanks. The Hollaender 17E-5 3/4" looks like an identical mat...

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Shopsmith, Inc. Has A New Owner

Surprised to hear this. Hope springs eternal. My one live encounter with the previous owner (not John) left me with some concerns about the fate of the company, which now rests with this new owner. Profitably selling Shopsmith today and tomorrow will require wise management and realistic $$ expectat...

Re: Woodpeckers Sharpening Jig

OP said something about small chisels not seating properly in his "Woodpecker" guide, and causing skew. See attached photos. I do not know what is typical with such guides, but mine has a radiused feature which I believe is supposed to accommodate a range of chisel geometries. It does need...

Re: Caster upgrade worth it?

I did the upgrade and it was worth it for me. It does require some sheet metal drilling but I do not recall much trouble with it. The big urethane tires are much smoother rolling. I use my Mark V outdoors, outside the garage, and must wheel it in and out over very irregular surfaces. So for my situa...

Very thoughtful project, and well done.

Re: Question why do you want to know the RPM of your Headstock

Because if dial speed does not confirm actual speed, tool may be malfunctioning and may need adjustment or repair. Because if actual speed range does not match advertised speed range, tool may be malfunctioning and may need adjustment or repair. Because understanding how the tool is actually perform...

Re: Wet dry vac repair

That's right - centrifugal fan impeller speed goes up when clogged. Most people would think it should slow down. Impeller speeds up because as it is throwing air away from itself, impeller creates a partial vacuum around itself (when upstream air is blocked) and spins faster because of less air resi...
