Re: Jig for threading turned box and lid

That’s pretty slick! What’s the material that you’re threading? I understand that fine-grained hardwoods are best for threading. What are you looking to improve with the tweaks? If tearout on the threads is the problem, you could try stabilizing the wood prior to milling the threads, using multiple...

Jig for threading turned box and lid

My version of A shop-built jig for threading lids on turned boxes. The picture is of a box and lid used for proof of concept, and it works but needs a couple of tweaks for the final version. Suggestions wood be helpful.

Re: Patio door doge door insert

Most sliding doors have some slop in the vertical. A burglar just lifts the bottom of door so it clears the track and opens it right up. To stop break ins you need to prevent the door from moving both horizontally and vertically. The easiest way to prevent both horizontal and vertical movement is t...

Re: bandsaw blade alignment

What you see is a shopsmith design intent and for re-sawing and the likes it was believed to help clear the kerf. All shopsmith band saws are that way and if you want it vertical you do have to shim it. In thinner stock the angle is not much of an issue and I have cut the deer without having the bl...

Re: bandsaw blade alignment

How did you determine the blade was perfectly vertical as opposed to the table being off horizontal? Interesting thought I have no clue, all I know is the front to back alignment is not 90 deg. to table. The lower wheel and tensioning arm are in a fixed position on the frame. If the vertical alignm...

bandsaw blade alignment

I just watched Nick's Workshop Companion Reindeer video. One of the first things he did was to check that the bandsaw blade was 90 deg to the table both front to back and side to side. My front to back alignment is way out (see picture). After a review of the Bandsaw alignment procedure I did not fi...
