Mine was a used purchase-it was a powerpro upgrade rather than the box unit from SS. It is heavy and as such-I would recommend the lift assist. However with lift assist, I think the double tilt doesnt work unless you disconnect the gas cylinder...and I have alot of trouble disconnecting and reconnec...

I think if the ink is the top layer, it may be subject to degradation-or more forms of degradation - scratches/dings/and smudging. With a top coat protecting it like a polyurethane-you would still have the potential solarization degradation (inks for ink jets especially color-tend to fade under UV/B...

I dont know what final shape you want, but if its a standard molding shape like a half round-you could just get some of that and glue it on the ply edge then paint.

Continuing on into spring...2 appropriate projects. I'm the one who initially asked about your proteus- it came from my general thought of getting my hands away from the blade. I simply didnt know anything like that existed !
