Re: Arbors for model 500 versus 510
The change from the original (now 500) Mark V table system to the 510/505/520 plus the new Mark 7 (same as 520) needing different arbors is the lower guard for this system having a deeper throat requiring longer arbors. Any use of the lower guard for sawing or disk sanding makes these longer arbors ...

Re: Hello!! And Help!!!
The Shopsmith Mark 5 or V (depending on if it was made before or after 1980) motor runs at 3450 RPM. That is true for both the 3/4 and 1-1/8 HP motors. It would be difficult to find a lower RPM motor to replace it with. It has a longer shaft and very specific mounting points. The idea of changing pu...

Re: Did anyone else learn to use their Shopsmith with books?
It is true, there is more written information available about the Shopsmith than any other tool. Remember Shop Notes and Shopsmith Shavings? Kind of the Shopsmith Forum of their day. Some great Info in those too.

Re: Hello!! And Help!!!
Again, Thank You for your service to our Country. Our Military both past and present do not hear that enough. As for your questions Ed know his motors. Do NOT try to vary the speed of the AC motor as you suggest. As Chris said start turning some spindles or the like. I have a Mark V 520 (now a Mark ...

Re: 10E
If you do not have one already get a copy of the Owner's Manual. It will help you identify which parts you need. The Model 10E and 10ER was a work in progress with changes made to the parts from the first 10E shipped out in October 1947 to the last ones made in 1953. As an example, need a Carriage L...

Re: Extension under carpet
You have a tough situation so your best option would be a cord cover like the ones in the picture from Gene. Leave it over the carpet so it is easy to see it's condition. The cord cover should help keep it in place while reducing the trip hazard. I am a retired Firefighter and putting a power cord u...

The install kit makes it a breeze to change the hole heights. I love that drill guide.

Re: Shopsmith Air Compressor System
The Magna Sprayer Model DM shows up in a catalog dated in 1954 after the release of the "Greenie" Mark 5. It continued in production into the 1960’s Magna American era to at least 1964 which is the last catalog I have for Magna in the 60's. They were Part Numbers 66 000 & 505643. Remem...

Re: Mark V as Lathe - using weights and speed reductions
BR549 is correct. You may want to consider a Model 10 with a speed changer instead of a Mark V for lathe work. The Mark V has a range of 700 to 5200 RPM whereas the Model 10's with a speed changer has a range of 425 to 6800 RPM. I have seen "special homemade pulley attachments made for the Mode...

Re: Is there a difference between these fences?
The Shaper Table Insert has a slightly smaller hole than the Drum Sander Table Insert (2-1/4" vs. 2-5/8" dia.) Everything I can find makes me believe the fences are the same, just packaged differently. As for the question of "not for use with ER, M2 or M7" it is kind of a misprin...
