SS drill mode

Got ready to drill a hole in a table leg in horizontal mode which was going to be so easy on my SS. Oops the table won't go down far enough! Switched to vertical position and had a perfectly centered hole in no time. Metal base in which I had previously drilled the table leg hole, plus top and base ...

Copper pipe or brass tubes make good ferrules. I have used brass pen tubes on some small projects. If you don't have a lathe set up, you could rig a tool rest for a drop press. If tang is round just drill a hole and epoxy in. Another option is to split a dowel in half and shape a cavity for the tang...

I have edited the initial post to include pics and details of what I have learned. This set up is a keeper and needs to move to a metal copy with a two part post to allow the router to swivel or lock into a set postion.

Just checked out the flute set up and do not need to offset the leg. The taper is 3/32nd less at the small end compared to the larger end and should work perfectly off of the tool rest support arm. I'll have vertical and horizontal adjustment and only need to come up with a flat plate to anchor the ...

Hey JPG,

You saw my mahogany dining table, so this is a cakewalk. I just need to get the set up straight in my head so I don't mess up an already nice turning. Flutes are marked just need to cut.

Eccentric tailstock and fluting a turned leg

I am reproducing a Philco radio fluted leg. I have the leg turned and the flutes laid out. I have not used the eccentric feature before, but figure this is the perfect time to learn. Questions How to determine the proper eccentric offset? Any one have a design for a holder for a router to use the to...

A 5/8 unthreaded inset is a blank sleeve that has to have a set screw to hold it on the shaft. I have owned a couple of different SS's plus a variety of attachments and have yet to spot an angled set screw. Since the set screw has to be turned to be tightened it would be extremely difficult to line ...

Had a catch while turning an especially gnarly oak knuckle and blew out the side of the support arm. I still won! It's a bowl now!

Have a monster lathe now so I won't be putting stubborn stuff on the SS anymore.
