If it HAS been disassembled, and the jaws improperly sequenced, the tips will NOT ALL THREE extend the same distance from the body when closed.

As difficult as they are to 'disassemble', It is unlikely that it has been.

Good point re 'crud'.

My understanding is that the wb flyer was not very stable. The use of a forward rudder is not done today(without very sophisticated control mechanisms). I agree with Farmer: historical accuracy - OK - BUT not at the price of safety!.

The SS website does show that part under the numbers 514058(left hand) and 514059(right hand). They are 28.73 each. Here's the link http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/itemfind.htm?item=503811&Submit=Find+Item . Pretty handy link to have to find parts by part number. Give them a call to verify i...

I feel glad for you for two reasons: 1) You will soon 'get' your ordered parts. 2) Your concern re ss status has been 'relieved'. I compliment you on your 'attitude' re your wait and concern relative to ss 'condition'. There have been others with similar concerns which have NOT reacted as civil as y...

Methinks you have a pre 1954? sand casting greenie. I think the access hole was 'added'. The holes for the locating 'pins' look different on later models. The top and bottom holes have been drilled as well as the outer circumference of the 'hole'. The hole appears to be the size of the 'smaller' acc...

BTW Sears IS starting to NOT replace all 'Craftsman' tools. The former 'guarantee' is not across the board any more.:(
