This is the first time that I have used this SS. The housing on my other one never gets hot. I don't recall it even getting warm. The first thing I do with used equipment is clean and go over it looking for obvious issues. It is clean inside. I have not lubed it yet so I will give it a try. It has d...

1-1/8 hp motor overheating?
Hooked up a recently acquired SS (2 bearing quill) w/jointer and was happily jointing away in a hot shop under a fan. Began to notice a hint of warm wood smell and that the temp seemed to be rising. Put my hand on the housing and it was hotter than I care to hold onto. No burning smell of either ele...

Nothing to be scared of here if you prep your wood properly and pay attention during your glue up. Cons: -You better not mind handling 35# everytime you switch it out. -On mine th...

If its that pretty don't be scared of turning it as long as it can be held safely in the lathe. On small items (i.e. pens, bottle stoppers) I use thin CA glue to stablize the punky parts. On bigger items I use Minwax wood hardener or old poly or varnish thinned 1:1 to make it thin enough to penetrat...

I agree. I try to use wood that matches the color I want and top coat it and be done, but people that I do custom work for usually require staining and color matching. Set up a cardboard spray booth. Get a small gravity feed spray gun and if at all possible use a water based finish and you will be d...
