Ed in Tampa, Just for some comic relief.... I find I can mentally manage my wood projects OK... until the finish steps! Here is a desk I did this past winter (I'm using it right now). It was *supposed* to have a uniform light red glaze on the top. Actually I made an oak desk, put pickling white stai...

Hey All, Today's highlight for me was not the commuting, the office-work, the yard-work, nor the coordinating 2 genius(es) to figure out a mysterious furnace-flue "constipation." The highlight was finding, at the local library Used Book Sale, one of the SS Hands-On books showing this Climb...

Ed,

Thanks for a super job defending Shopsmith. Having got my system this year, I'm still delighted with it.

Hi Chuck, Thanks for your comments and questions. My techniques included: Outermost roof-arches: I made a cardboard shape template and separately cut 5 pcs of ¾-inch oak stock to that shape on the bandsaw. Then I resawed each one to end up with the necessary 9 thin pieces. Finer smoothing of their p...

Temple Model

Hi, If anyone watched NBC (6pm) News the other night (though it’s funner to watch HandsOnline), they showed the magnificent Baha’i Temple in Chicago (Wilmette). Info is at http://www.bahai.us/bahai-temple . This is not my house of worship, but it is personally significant through some of my friends ...

Hi, Some time ago I posted this into the ssug.org forum. This is a rough start to a Mark V model on sketchup. Dimensions are reasonably accurate for the core elements & rotating shafts, but it could stand further development: http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=51ec4d48bbd17603c5a...

Mark V option to upgrade cast-Al knobs?

Hi, This was a designated "brainstorm day" at work, and lo and behold I have a brainstorm for the Mark V..... I bet if they sold upgraded wing-knobs for the quill-stop, headstock-lock, etc., they could sell a lot. Mine are the durable stock aluminum castings, but you can see the mold-lines...

I would not call one of my strategies a 'bargain,' typically. But now and then at antique malls I will find a hunk of wood in something that's clearly not worth preserving as an antique. Such as an 'antique' which was obviously somebody's c. 1976 home-router-shop attempt at a walnut wall-shelf. For ...

ryanbp01, With my commuting and my working I can rarely leave on the out-of-town escapades I used to do as a single man. Then again, getting married finally let me "settle down" enough to have a space for a Mark V, which has been great. I'm not aware of NE Indiana clubs for the Shopsmith, ...
