Ressurecting this thread because I ran into something interesting yesterday. I kept seeing patent art prints on ebay for shopsmith stuff and I knew that they had to be public domain. I went and took a peek, and there is a lot of interesting data out there. While looking, I ran into a 1957 patent fo...

That writeup clearly states that at the completion, the outfeed table is raised to the height of the blades. Great catch, JPG. I did miss that, in paragraph 7 of his write up, http://www.woodcentral.com/bparticles/knife_adjustment.shtml , he does in fact actually state that one must reset the outfe...

I guess I should have gone to the shop and performed the procedure myself before I referenced it. My BAD. Like I said, when I do mine, the blade touching the ruler can just barely be felt. It definitely does not pick up and move the ruler an inch or more. I agree with Dusty. In fact, unless you are...

Actually, I like the "zipper". Dust and chips can accumulate on the side where the fan housing is closest to the hood. The openings where chips fall into the plastic bag can also become clogged. Every third or forth emptying of the plastic bag I unzip the hood and with a thin piece of woo...

My New 42 Inch Filter Hood Has A Zipper?

When Shopsmith put the DC3300 and accessories on sale recently, I decided to upgrade to the 42 inch filter hood. I got around to installing it tonight. Messy job! Here's the weird thing. The hood has a ... zipper. Runs vertically and is a little less than half height of the hood. There's a somewhat ...

"Thread backlash slop"?? Is that what you get when you post a new thread about the merits (or lack thereof) of SawStop? :D

the jointer isn't supposed to cut tapers as a matter of course. I agree that that the jointer isn't supposed to cut tapers. That's certainly not its purpose, as you point out. But it also isn't designed with any way to prevent tapers either. With an edge/face that isn't true to begin with, the join...

Mountainbreeze, your jointer when properly set up should NOT produce a tapered cut. If you set the depth of cut at 1/16", that's what you should be taking off the entire length of the board you're jointing if the jointer is set up properly and you're using proper technique. This is not correct...

I'm not really doing anything specific. I noticed this phenomenon when I was jointing one edge to be square with its adjacent surface. It took me 4 or 5 passes to get it square and when I was done, I noticed that the board, which had (nearly) parallel edges when I started, was tapered by a noticeab...

I have checked that the infeed and outfeed tables are co-planer by clamping a wide straightedge to the outfeed table and confirming that there is a consistent gap on the infeed table. I adjust the knives using a dial indicator and then confirm using the metal ruler method outlined in the jointer us...
