Re: Bandsaw trouble shooting
I bought a very old and well used bandsaw with bushed bearings and cracked, dry-rotted tyres. I replaced all the bushed bearings with cartridge ball bearings and tapped the guides to 7mmx1mm threads. Swapped the tyres out to blue Bandsawtirewarehouse tyres, added a dust port and the nylon screw to t...

Re: Best general purpose table saw blade for a newbie
I've used a Freud 50T combo blade since I got my SS back in 1987. I have a thin kerf ripping blade but for general purpose use it flexes too much. For cross cutting it's not needed and makes the cut rougher. Thin kerf is great for manufacturers. Less steel and carbide saves them $$..... If a 5hp Del...

What's a starter relay? Is that different than the centrifugal switch? Just interested and the google isn't bearing fruit.

Re: Snapped Band Saw Tire
I've read the Shopsmith factory orange replacement tyres aren't very good. I went with Bandsawtirewarehouse blue tyres, $30 shipped. No crown by design, no glue by design. Came with excellent instructions and a tool to help on the install. I was going to sell this bush-bearing bandsaw after rebuildi...

It's neat that you're learning a little historical information whilst you participate here!JPG wrote:A bent key that fits into a depression in the keyway that is covered by the hub of a pulley is quite unique.
I have not encountered that anywhere else.

Re: ShopSmith Caster upgrade issues?
:) :) :) :) I always forget how there hundreds of posts struggling to position the casters into correct position. I've never had an issue, my larger wheelsets just tickle the floor when up and clear the cracks in my shop floor when lowered. Some of us have projects to complete and a full time job o...

Re: ShopSmith Caster upgrade issues?
I suspect that patience and finesse rather than a hammer might have been the better tools to use. OR: Maybe a rat tail file in the newly drilled holes. In my opinon that's total waste of time. You can't tell unless you get on your knees and use macro mode on your camera. Took all of a minute vs 30 ...

Re: ShopSmith Caster upgrade issues?
I had fitment issues with the caster bodies not fitting onto the edge of the sheet metal legs. As I moved the bodies upward to accommodate the larger wheels the edge didn't fit nicely into the body. I used a little persuasion to permanently adjust the edge so it would fit. Did anyone else encounter ...
