Re: Another pork chop story
So I was having trouble with the speed dial on my 520 being hard to turn and hanging up slightly in several spots. I took out the speed mechanism and saw that the teeth on my pork chop (I always get hungry when I think about it) were goofed up. A lot of uneven wear and bent. I ordered a new porkcho...

Re: Help identifying parts
My "pixel ruler" suggests that the round protrusions on what looks like the long heavy piece might fit into the Mark V miter slot. Can you check that and, if it fits, post a pic of the other side of that piece? It might shed some light on the other pieces.

Re: Shopmate 5 in 1 tool
Interesting, Looks old. When was China making these things? Maybe Taiwan. There were a number of Taiwanese clones of the Shopsmith Mark V (later known as Model 500) in the 1980's when most of the Shopsmith patents ran out. Most were made by one company but sold under various names. My guess is that...

Re: US Government is About to Change Table Saws FOREVER!
Here is the complete CPSC hearing on oral presentations, it took place on 2/28/2024, same day as SawStop's press release conditionally dedicating patent 840 to the public. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyJGE2Vyid0) Starting about 48:55 Commissioner Feldman acknowledges shortfalls in CPSC's Cost :...

Re: cleaning and preparing tubes for rebuild.
I could use a little help . I remember reading about some chemical that you could use if the rust pits on tubes where deeper than you could sand out. Paint it on then sand or buff off the excess. I want ot say it was called petrol? IF anyone knows what I can't remember. Thanks. Product name please....

Re: US Government is About to Change Table Saws FOREVER!
Briefly getting back to the subject of this thread, Matt at 731 Woodworks has posted a new video on it entitled "US Government Wants to Put a 'Safety Tax' on Table Saws!" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gyRBEN1ang) I'm not sure why it's titled that way, I didn't see/hear anything about a...

"What Went Wrong?" He is an experienced SS user that failed to lock the table height immediately after adjusting it. When veteran woodworkers are injured (he wasn't, thankfully) complacency and/or distraction are frequently contributors. Could most of us create interesting video content wh...

Re: Acceptable Quill Shaft runout SS 510
thanks for that. Can you replace the bearings on the quill shaft? I checked the SS website and the only thing I could find was an entire quill shaft assembly, but no part listing for the bearings themselves. Doug Yes. Shopsmith generally doesn't sell the bearings for most assemblies, but replacemen...

Re: Acceptable Quill Shaft runout SS 510
I don't think we have defined minimums. With a two bearing quill I expect quill runout to be under 0.001" (based mostly on experience) and will live with 0.002". Worse than that, I expect to improve it with bearing service. Excellent blades (Forrest for example) claim under 0.001". Fa...
