Re: Headstock with plain black power switch

I figured it to be replacing a bad switch, but it appears to have little usage. Perhaps it was changed just prior to sale. I have to be suspicious of this machine, don't know how it started in life. If the switch failed early on I would expect a ShopSmith replacement, so I have to worry about what ...

Re: Old Mk VII quill upgrade???

Good day everybody, I have an Old Mk VII and I am rebuilding the headstock. I have all the bearings replaced and it is nice and smooth. But the Drive Coupler seems to be out of tolerance a little bit causing end play on the quill splndle. Is there any way to order this part? Shopsmith of course doe...

Re: sawstop

In particular, do you have any unexplained firings of the brake mechanisms? I do not own one. There are a lot of hits on Google for false trips. And of course, even more opinions as to causes. From some it appears that the manufacturer can do some evaluation of the cartridge(s) and may be able to h...

Re: PowerPro Rattle on Startup

Thanks - glad to hear that worked for you. I’ve moved the eccentric bearing in and out, twisted the eccentric sleeve back and forth, and tightened and loosened the 1/4” socket head bolt holding it, and I still can’t make the startup rattle go away. I’ll have to try your stethoscope trick, but my ra...

Re: Headstock with plain black power switch

I agree with John. I have one like that except the rocker is red. I bought it from eBay, there were numerous options including black. Jacob A also advocated non-SS switches of similar design. Kind of surprising it has been replaced though, the PowerPro is pretty gentle on switches, and can't be much...

Re: Nick's New Table Saw Alignment Video

Doing that alignment is tricky on the SS. For me, I'll get to 2 to 4 thousandths but it usually doesn't survive the final tightening for me and I have to redo it . I think the best I've managed front to back is a 5 thousandths completed. b I agree it is tricky, especially because of the movement wh...

Disappointed in ShopSmith Winter Closeout

Not too far back Shopsmith held one of their closeout or inventory reduction sales. Some of the prices were so low that they perhaps represented human error.(?) I initially bought six items, five from the sale, and received a confirmation. I later decided to add an item, which I did through CS. So s...

Re: Shopsmith Model 10's What When and Where

I'm not a Model 10 guy, but one thing I can tell you is you got a great "buy." You have the speed changer which, if intact, is what generally separates used Model 10's from one another. That alone is probably worth more than a complete Model 10 without one in my area.

Re: PowerPro Rattle on Startup

... Fingers crossed that this will turn out to be the source of the rattle once I get everything back together, but I'm not sure why the rattle seems to be coming from the other end of the headstock. Very possible to cause that result IMO. I think a loose fan can cause or increase torque jitter, a ...

Re: PowerPro Rattle on Startup

Yes, I've noticed the eccentric can slip down if the small stop screw on the eccentric falls into the slot on the headstock while rotating the eccentric. Smart idea on checking for parallel shafts - I think I may be able to replicate the Wixie functionality using my iPhone angle finder. I modified ...
