6x48 Belt Sander with both drums crowned....
My 1987 issue 6x48 belt sander came from the factory with both drums crowned. I understand this was a mistake that lasted for some time. The effect is that the sanding belt tracks poorly. In order to keep the belt between limits it requires constant fiddling with the tracking wheel at the nose of th...

Re: Need help on how get started!!!!
I bought the blue tyres from bandsawtirewerehouse on ebay. I followed their instructions and have no issues. They are working very well for the last six months. Yes to using your old cover and adding a viewing port, I've done it to two now. Don't forget the dust port upgrade too. There a nylon bolt ...

Re: Inspirational workshop layout
My single car garage is about the same size, 11.5 x 22 = 253 ft square. The ceiling is almost 12 ft high, that helps.RFGuy wrote:

...The current Band Saw...internal parts are basically the same since the introduction in the 1950's only the Table and the cover plus it's attachment has changed.... Older bandsaws have bushing bearings for the guides. At some point Shopsmith switched to cartridge ball bearings in all three guides...

Re: Best general purpose table saw blade for a newbie
Well, this is Doug Reid's take on it: Doug Reid claims the first 10" saws came out in the 50s. He's wrong. Delta Unisaw came out around 1939 with a 10" blade and a 5/8 arbor. Unisaw is a commercial saw, not a hobbyist rig. If ...

Re: haven't seen snow on Halloween
Ten years ago they told us we wouldnt see snow in the Rockies by now. They used computer simulations that NOAA promised us were very accurate. How'd that work out? Record snowfall last year, no mountain biking most of the summer due to snow on the trails, now record low temps and early snow. Ski sea...

Re: Snapped Band Saw Tire
I will be surprised if the blue tyres fail. Over on old woodworking machines (owwm.org) they're used by many rebuilders and are thought of as a good option. That's why I went with them. Shopsmith should sell the blue ones instead of the orange. I almost bought a set of the orange disasters last summ...
