Re: Revised Digital Edition of 1953 PTWFE

Do you know which motors you will include? The most common ones I have seen are the 1/2 HP and 3/4 HP A. O. Smith, which is understandable since it is the motors Magna sold to go with them. GE, Montgomery Wards and Craftsman are others that have come on ones I have owned/restored.

Re: 10ER rebuild

My Model 4E Jointer is serial number 2145. Not to many of these were made. I have seen very few with the highest serial number being 9108. The "New 4" Jointer" was featured in SHOPSMITH SHAVINGS Issue No. 8, the same issue announcing to Shopsmith owners the soon to be available Mark 5...

On line from a book re-seller. The top and bottom edges of the jacket are a bit shelf worn. I think I will make a case to display/store it in.

Re: New to woodworking- possible purchase

Besides using my Shopsmith's for projects, I restore old Shopsmith as a hobby. When I sell a restored machine I include this in the ad. The Shopsmith 5 in 1 Tool may be the best Drill Press ever made. On your average drill press a small worktable rotates left or right but the Shopsmith's larger tabl...

Maybe he fixed his issue with the help he found here and is too busy making sawdust to reply. We can only hope.

Re: Jointer cutter head hitting the table.

The Hex hole on the base/outfeed table is for using the blade guard when doing rabbits. Do the rabbits on the edge not with the board flat. It is shown in the old Jointer Manual. Safety has been a top concern at Shopsmith so they are always improving the operation of the tools to be as safe as possi...

Re: Revised Digital Edition of 1953 PTWFE

THANK YOU Everett You are correct, I will now use this digital version rather than my copy. My copy was also signed by R. J. De Cristoforo on 3/24/53 To Margaret Rauch who apparently worked at Magna and helped him with this book. It's a treasure like John's that I would like to keep in the good cond...

Re: Bandsaw Wheel

I have a 1998 Band Saw and they are smooth with the lip on the front and rear edges to keep the belt in place. I had a 1985 Band Saw with a 1982 Mark V I refurbished but I didn't have the tires off that one. I wonder if the grooves were to give the glue a better grip. Alberrt the Band Saw from the m...

Three books that will help you if you don't already have them are 1. The Owner's Manual - It will show you how to set it up to do the different functions and trouble shoot problems. 2. The Self-Study guide aka 10 Simple Lessons to Successful Woodworking - and it is just that. It will walk you throug...
