Slop in the Miter Gage

I have a 1977 vintage Mark 5 which was used quite a bit by my father before he passed it along to me. It still runs great. The miter gage was a bit sloppy in the right side miter slot so, as an experiment, I put a strip of aluminum tape down both sides of the miter gage rail which added about 0.008&...

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I think I'll go take a look at it this weekend. If you think of anything else to watch out for on the planer, please let me know.

Also turn the height adjustment crank, looking carefully for any "wobble" or uneven effort in turning the crank. The jack posts on this planer are easily bent, and if this damage occurs this is an extensive/complex repair. When buying a planer on eBay, this type of damage often occurs in ...

You guys are great. Thanks again.

Now, assuming it is in descent condition, is $400 for the planer, extra set of blades, and dust collection hood a fair price?

Thanks for the feedback. That's exactly what I am looking for. Is the outfeed roller also something that may be rubber and need replacing?

Anything else I should look for?

Planer

I have the opportunity to buy a used shopsmith planer for my Mark V. I have not seen it yet and I was wondering if anyone could suggest specific things to look for and/or checkout prior to buying. I don't think I will be able to see it in operation so I really need to know what to look for. Any help...

Yet Another Arbor Question

I have a hand-me-down ShopSmith Mark V that was purchased in 1977 by my father. The original bill of sale lists a '5/8" Universal Arbor' part number 505506. This is the arbor that my father used for all of his saw blades and for the dado set he had. When I look this part number up on shopsmith....
