Another thing I did not get when I bought my used upgrade.

Sanding Disk Hub Upgrade

Can the sanding disk that came with the 500 be upgraded to the hubs that come with the 520?

Re: Am I missing any valid reasons to opt for a traditional drill press instead?

I have two dedicated drill presses. My first one was purchased for drilling steel. I don't use my Shopsmith for drilling metal. The second one was purchased, used, refurbished, and set up to drill tiny holes for scroll saw projects. My Shopsmith is used for horizontal drilling in wood only. I don't ...

Re: Wet dry vac repair

In a wet-dry vacuum, the air sucked in is not used to cool the motor. The motor is cooled by a separate fan attached to the opposite end of the motor.

Re: Sanding belts Keep Separating at Tape Joint

I learned the hard way not to stock up on sanding belts. The adhesive will eventually separate, no matter where you store them. Granted, storing them in a climate-controlled area will prolong the life of the adhesive. I try not to have more sanding belts on hand than I think I will use relatively qu...

Re: Dimensioning thin stock with a disk sander.

I make small items that have pieces as thin as 1/8-inch. I have boxes full of short hardwood cutoffs with all sorts of thicknesses. A box where I want all the sides to be the same thickness comes to mind. I would resaw it to get the required thickness and sand it flat. To do this with a conical san...

Re: Dimensioning thin stock with a disk sander.

I don't have a drum sander and do not intend to buy a Shopsmith drum sander due primarily to its not being a standard size. This discussion sent me down a rabbit hole researching drum sanders. It seems to me that the sleeveless drum sander is the way to go. I have lots of sandpaper I could use on a ...

Re: Dimensioning thin stock with a disk sander.

What size stock are you trying to arrive at? And starting from what size? If you have large enough stock to resaw it why would you want to sand it down to size instead of just finishing it? I make small items that have pieces as thin as 1/8-inch. I have boxes full of short hardwood cutoffs with all...
