Powering other tools with a Shopsmith

In this case I want to drive my 14" bandsaw with a Shopsmith to take advantage of variable speed. (see note below) The bandsaw is too big to try to mount on the auxiliary tubes, it would end up with the table 6 inches higher than the SS bandsaw and aligning it would be quite difficult, it has a...

Re: Velcro disc sander

You can use your own adhesive backed velcro without a problem. You can cut your own circle or apply and then trim it around the disk. I don't think gluing it yourself will get it down very flat and likely make it difficult to replace. It will last a long time but not forever.

Re: Powerpro problem-maybe?

I agree. I designed and manufactured electronic equipment and these costs while high, are not really exhorbitant for the small volume production of Shopsmiths and related devices. Without this kind of price structure Shopsmith might not be able to keep operating, and it appears their resources are ...

Re: Powerpro problem-maybe?

I've been in the electronics industry for a little while now (probably less time than you), first at a small company where we assembled and tested our own boards in house and since the acquisition with a large company known by three letters and associated with the color blue. I specifically design,...

Re: Powerpro problem-maybe?

You can buy a new motor on ebay for almost the same price. https://www.ebay.com/itm/333185254723 So a power supply should be less Due Diligence: Be careful with this. The motor may be the same while the mounting mechanism may no be. If you're replacing a broken motor then the original mounting bloc...

Re: Dedicated Drill Press

That was the idea but I still managed to lose track of the tie rods. I do have the brackets right so there's only 4 different ways the rods can fit. That means I should be able to work it out in 8 to 10 tries.

Dedicated Drill Press - Episode II - Attack of the Roll Pins

Attached the legs, mounted the 510 headstock, inserted the table and took a good look. It's stable, no problem there, but everything except the headstock and the tubes are dirty and/or rusty, and the paint is flaking off. So it's disassembly time, this is the the first time I've completely disassemb...

Re: I'm doing a Power Pro Self Upgrade - Victory!

Yippee! I now have a Shopsmith Power Pro. It wasn't easy, lining up the motor is tricky. I use a piece of the packing foam as the top layer of the stage to hold up the motor so I could push down on it and get a little bit of adjustment to get the holes lined up. It's a good adjustment system, comple...

Re: Dedicated Drill Press

In between tearing my hair out over the Power Pro upgrade (just kidding, I don't have that much hair left :) ), I cut a couple of pieces of bench tube using the junkiest makeshift metal cutting bandsaw there ever was, but it worked. I de-rusted those and the clamps and put them into the base ends, w...
