Belt Sander Belt Repair?

Post by chucks »

Haven't been here for awhile. I remember back in the day a discussion ab out old Sanding Belts coming apart at the glue joint and methods to fix that problem. I collected my Shop smiths back then and am now to perform maintenance so that I can actually use them(Finally Retired). All my old New sanding belts are not so new any more. They immediately separate at the glue joint when attempting to use them. Can't locate the old thread,,,Please Help...

I haven't seen that thread on repairing the belts, but I had a similar problem with mine last year because my Shopsmith belt was too old. I see you are also in the Phoenix area. If you want to get up and running quickly you may want to just hop over to Rockler and buy a replacement. When I went last year they had Norton brand 6" belt sander belts in various grits. Might be an option if you want to replace them.

They also have these belts at Harbor Freight for very low prices.

I have belts for a Black & Decker as well as the Shopsmith belt sanders. I stocked up on belts for both before I retired. They were stored in my garage, maybe not the best idea in Phoenix. Oh well. When I couldn't find the answer I was looking for here, I did a general internet search and I found a recommendation for Shoe Goo. It worked....

Glad you found something that worked. Yeah, PHX garages can be brutal on equipment and supplies due to summer temps...
