510 Main Table Trunion Reattachment

The trunions are secured to the table by two screws and thick washers each.

This table also has shims between the rear trunion and the table. Yes the shims vary.

A pivot pin is screwed into the rear end of the tie bar.

Ditto the front end.

The trunions are slipped onto the pivot pins. Make sure the 'front' trunion is on the front end.

Place the shims(if any) carefully over the trunion mounting threaded holes.

Taking care to not dislodge the shims, position the rear trunion over the holes, insert the screws with washer, position the trunion centered and with the outside edge of the washers even with the rear edge of the trunion. snug the screws. This places the trunioin mounting holes roughly centered over the threaded holes(initial positioning).

Making sure there is no play of the tie bar between the trunions, repeat with the front trunion. Assure trunion parallelism by moving the mounting posts to the extreme positions(+90, -45) as the screws are snugged. The rear trunion may need to be tweaked. This should allow the mounting post to traverse the entire range with minimal dragging. Final positioning will be done as the table is aligned to the saw blade(quill).

The tilt lock rod is next. If you removed the rear wedge from the bar, securely tighten it onto the rod, then slip one 'return' spring over the bar.

Insert that into the rear hole in the tie bar.

No pix, but the tilt index attaches with two screws. It will be positioned later.

The tilt lock rod is inserted through the hole in the front of the tiebar and the second return spring slipped over the end..

The front wedge is slipped on next.

Now for the 'trickey' step. While pushing in against the REAR wedge, simultaneously push in on the FRONT wedge with the washer and tilt lock nut/handle as you rotate the nut onto the rod. This is less 'trickey' if the handle is removed from the nut, but then you would have to reattach it with the nut 'mounted'. I did not take the nut/handle apart.

Again no pix, but raise the mounting tubes to the zero index position against the zero stop, and tighten the tilt lock. Align the index to the zero scale on the trunion. Release the lock and verify the indicator does not drag against the trunion.

As a preview, this is how I tighten/loosen the mounting screws. The allen wrench is 5/16" and the box end wrench the same.
