shopsmith Model ER s/n R40632
Newbie here. I just got this unit yesterday not knowing what I was getting. What is the difference between a ER and a 10ER? Where would be a good place to find books for it and parts ? Thanks for all the help.

In the thread "Shopsmith Large Format Drawings, Illustrations and More", on the first page find the link My Google Drive and follow it to My Google Drive. https://www.shopsmith.com/ss_forum/view ... 90#p185690 The files there exceed the posting limit here in the forums.
There is a 10E & 10ER MAGNA folder in which you will find the Restored and Enhanced Preliminary Shopsmith Manual
In that manual you will find new material published no where else that defined the differences and production changes 10E to 10ER
You will also find a fully restored 10E and 10ER Owner's Guides. All are free
In the 10E & 10ER MAGNA directory you will find a document titled "What were the original bearings Shopsmith / Magna put in the first equipment they made.PDF"
In the main directory in My Google Drive there is a really helpful document titled "Shopsmith Bearings Guide.PDF" that has a great amount of information, specifications, and how-to information that is relevant to all models. Again, you are welcome to anything there.

Welcome aboard, and congratulations on your new acquisition.
The first Shopsmith was the 10E (10 Experimental) which was followed by the 10ER (10 Experimental Revised). Sometimes people will abbreviate it to just ER but it is the same thing. (It is just like the difference between a duck. There is no difference, one leg is both the same. )
The manuals that Everett Davis restored and linked to above are a wonderful resource.
You can also find documentation for the 10ER and associated equipment on the Vintage Machinery web site. http://vintagemachinery.org/mfgIndex/de ... =338&tab=3
There is a really good thread on this forum that is worth reading. Everything E / ER - Technical info, documentation, links
And here is a link to digitized book that covers the functions of the 10ER in depth. https://www.dropbox.com/s/x8nssglpvm4jj ... e.pdf?dl=0
Please post pictures of your 10ER and the accessories that came with it, we love pictures , and feel free to ask questions.

Welcome to the forum. Lots of great information here. If you don't find it here you will probably not find it anywhere else.Viper38 wrote:how do I know if it is a 10E or 10 ER ? there is no 10 anywhere on the model number.
RPD is spot on. The manual if you have one should say 10E or 10ER on the cover. The ID plate on the head stock will also say 10E or 10ER. There were various iterations of the head stock data plate over the years so yours may not look exactly like this picture but I have never seen one that did not say 10E or 10ER.

No pic. There is a 2MB size limit as well as an XxY pixel size limit. When you try to attach a picture the screen will scroll to the top of your post. If the picture did not post there will be an error message as to why. IT IS NOT OBVIOUS!!! You might have to scroll down a bit to see it and it will be in the same font as the rest of the page and not highlighted.Viper38 wrote:I hope the pic loads right
