I have begun the reassembly process. When I was rewinding the quill return spring I heard a snap and discovered the spring had snapped where it connected to the pin. Is there a way to drill , another hole in the spring and, if so, what size(s) bit would I use?

I re-drilled mine many years ago and it is still working fine. :)

Here's a link to the pictures, sorry they are not in focus, and cell phone cameras were pretty low res back then.
Center punch where you want the holes. the larger one needs to be big enough to go over the pin head, and the smaller one the size of the shaft.
I think I would drill the smaller one first.
