Need guard parts

Post by ShoptimusPrime »

I'm looking for a complete upper and lower guard set up for a model 500. I took a look on eBay and didn't see much out there. Does anyone here have an extra set up they'd be willing to part with?

In case you are not aware, there are three versions of upper and lower saw guards for a model 500.

This thread may help you identify the type you want to find.

If you looked at the link that br549 provided above you will see information on the different guards that have been available through the years for the Mark 5/V with the original table system later known as 500. I do not recommend the early guard first made for the Greenies. It does not have a round discharge port so not easy to connect dust collection. It's more of a dust deflector. The metal set P/N's 505627 & 505628 made by Shopsmith Inc. starting in the 1970's is the one I see most often for sale but beware as often it is not a complete assembly. The most common part I see missing is the heavy wire loop called the shoe on the upper guard that guides the guard up over the wood being cut. The upper guard is unusable without it. More popular is the later guard set P/N 050875 2nd version with the 2-1/2" ports. It has the clear plastic upper guard. It encloses the blade under the table better providing better dust collection than the metal set. If anyone is reading this and wondering about dust collection for Model 10's I do use the metal set P/N's 505627 & 505628 on Model 10's for dust collection.
