Yea- i don't have a belt sander, but i did wonder which direction the belt travelled past the blade there in that picture.
If the sander runs clockwise, this would be the direction you want.

Normally the Belt Sander runs with the belt going from the top to the bottom on the platen (backing plate) side. Since the Belt Sander has the drive shaft going through the drive drum (bottom) it can be turned around and ran in reverse with the belt going from the bottom to the top. A more desirable rotation for the Belt Sander to sharpen the Jointer Knives. If JPG is correct about the tensioner being able to function in either direction it would work.

Since I have it I'll still use the Sharpening Jig with the Conical Sanding Disk. Much quicker doing all 3 Jointer Knives at once and easier to set up.
