I saw an ad on ebay to rebuild a SS motor . I was not sure if you were interested in the service or not but the ad description gives some examples of problems and whether or not they can be fixed. https://www.ebay.com/itm/121163313221?s ... 1438.l2649

I noticed the ad Brenda linked is for a Mark VII. This is one for a Mark V, same folks $10 lower price: https://www.ebay.com/itm/124141027412?h ... SwDVVeh453

I just purchased a Mark 5 Greenie, and it has a 3/4 HP AO Motor with external capacitor. It was working when I removed it, but the wiring is original and should be replaced. I am willing to sell this motor if interested.

Thank you very much David. I took it to a local motor shop. The tech told me on the phone he would look at it but when I arrived he said he wanted $200 to fix it. It does make a "click" sound but won't start. The shaft turns freely but won't run. I will check the capacitor next but it must be removed to do so.

I was going to explain how the centrifugal start switch sometimes gets sawdust or other material between the contacts and how to clean it or dislodge it. But the clicking sound leads me to think that your motor uses a start relay, so this might not apply unless the relay is not sealed.(?) Sometimes tapping the motor case near the start switch, usually the end opposite the pulley, helps and sometimes compressed air helps. Here is a thread on start circuits, which includes the start capacitor: viewtopic.php?t=18945

Thank you all for your suggestions and questions. My issue is resolved. I found a wiring problem and corrected it myself. No replacement motor was needed. My AO Smith is purring as before. Thanks again.

Great! You likely won't need this, but I did notice an AO Smith MarkV currently listed on ebay.
