Last week I picked up a headstock pulley and a miter table extension from a Craig’s List seller, Dan, about ten miles from where I live. If you remember, the pulley I had was not a headstock pulley, although the 3 pulleys appeared to be the correct sizes, but the bore was coned-out making the pulley wobble. Dan had a couple of 10Es, and an old Mark 5, all disassembled, so I got the pulley for my 10ER. It stopped the pulley wobble.

But my drive bearings and the floating sheave on the variable speed changer were heating up, plus the VSC pulley assembly had a lot of play. So I got drive shaft bearings and polite bearings for the VSC from Hog Winslow this week. Replaced those this morning, and ran it for 10 minutes, running it through the full speed range, on the low setting. The 10ER is now running quietly, and the quill extends smoothly, which it had been binding in a couple of spots, and my speed range on low is 435 -1600.

I’m feeling successful! :D

Glad to hear things are working better for you. I have to ask about the low range speeds. You said it is 1435 -1600. Was that a typo?

From the picture it looks like the belt from the headstock is bottoming out in the Speed Changer's pulley assembly while the belt from the motor isn't quite at the top edge of the pulley. Adjusting those outside sheaves a bit closer together will correct that. The one belt should be even with the top of the pulley while the other is near but not touching the bottom of the pulley.

Yes, that was a typo, it was 435. I’ll return to tweak the belts, I was just doing a quick belt adjustment to test my bearing installation work before having to get cleaned up and run out to do docent duty at Rancho Los Peñasquitos Adobe and Ranch House. It’s a somewhat hidden jewel in San Diego County that has the second oldest still standing residential structure in the county; the adobe house built in 1823 by Francisco María Ruiz, who was the presidio (fort) commander of the Mexican military in San Diego.

Re the photo, that is a quirk of the phpBB software,
To increase frame rate, the camera software stores all photos as if they were take in landscape mode ie wider than high, and stores a flag as to what the actual orientation is. Most software will reference the flag and orient the photo accordingly. The programmers for phpBB have chosen not to do this. The easiest work around is to always to take the photos in landscape mode (hold your phone sideways) and they will display properly.
