It sounds like the Bandsaw will need some servicing and repair too. For the tires you have two choices. You can replace them with new OEM rubber tires or go to the Urethane Tires. Shopsmith sells both and Urethane Bandsaw Tires can be found from other suppliers. I have tried both and prefer the rubber tires. Urethane tires are good too and others do like them better. The rubber tires are harder to install gluing them on whereas the urethane tires are stretched on over the wheels without using any glue.

While you are going over the Bandsaw check the bearings in the upper guide, lower guide and the tracking bearings next to the tension bar. If they are bad replace them with new bearings. Shopsmith sells what is called the Bandsaw Backup Roller Retrofit Kit part number 555074 which replaces all three bearings. Two for the tracking bearings and one each for the upper and lower guide bearings. If the bearings need replacing and you want to use rubber tires the Basic Bandsaw Tune-Up Kit part number 556083 can save a bit of money buying those needed parts together. Also check the bearings in both the upper and lower wheels. The upper wheel has bearings that are accessible and need to be greased occasionally. Remove the clip that holds the upper wheel on the shaft and pull the wheel off. The needle bearings inside the wheel will then be exposed. Add a little grease and return the wheel to the shaft. The lower wheel bearings are sealed.

Once the maintenance is done follow the alignment procedures in the manual. Adjusting the upper blade guide can seem a bit difficult at first but keep with it. It can take many tries adjusting the screws in the guide column bracket to set the guide column properly at all distances above the table. It should stay parallel to the back side of a properly tracking blade at any position above the table. Once the alignment is done you will find this is one of the easiest Bandsaws to use with it's auto tracking.
