We got it together today... My son said "dad lets get that shopsmith put together... You tell me what to do and I'll do it." So... We got the legs on it and got the garage warm enough that the PowerPro worked and man is that thing quiet. My son want's to get the 95' put back together tomorrow. Same deal. I sit and instruct and he does the work. Plus most of that does not require lifting. So we are making progress!!!chapmanruss wrote: ↑Sat Dec 18, 2021 12:52 pm Sorry to hear your fall caused a fractured pelvis. I hope you can heal quickly without further issues. Putting the legs on you new Mark 7 and lifting it would probably be too much work for you at this point. Maybe some helpers to do that for you can get it assembled so you can start enjoying it. That and some easy tinkering with the 510 could help fight the boredom while recovering.

It's nice to hear that your son is helping and is excited about it too.

It's great that your son is getting invested in fixing up the 510. Now you won't have any trouble finding a good home for it once you are healed up and busy exploring you Mark 7. (maybe)
Merry Christmas,

Another channel for good repair videos is Jacob Anderson. He recently retired, but did Shopsmith repairs for many years.

The only draw back I've noticed with my son being involved is now he's coming up with all these projects he's going to on the SS and how he could use my mark 7 as well. Like I'm going to have to take a number. I don't think so sporty.

He can help you on your projects and you can help him on his projects. Double the fun.
Of course, dad's projects get priority.

Re: 1995 Shopsmith 510 Purchase
I can relate having a son who is now 35 and occasionally needs to borrow a tool. He even borrowed one of my Shopsmith Model 10E's I had restored to use while installing wood flooring in his home. He wishes he had room to keep one. Maybe someday when he gets a bigger place with a shop.

Re: 1995 Shopsmith 510 Purchase
No sir you are not! Just need to have a cold drink and take a breath. You can buy replacement posts on McMaster Carr. The hard part is going to drill out the old one. A new sharp drill bit and lots of cutting oil should get you in the clear. Those posts are a press fit and have screw flutes to bite into what ever there driven into. Drill the hole under sized and you might be able to get out the old post with an easy out. Just make sure you have a good v-block to hold the quill advance shaft stable while drilling. Go slow and steady. You are not Foxtrot, you might be able to have a local machine shop help you out as well if you'd rather not try to drill it out yourself.
