New Here

Post by JCC52 »

New here, Old ShopSmith owner. Boxed up a 1987 510 in 1995 to start an engineering company. 25 years later unboxed her and she runs great. Just purchased a new Mark 7 and I am now setting her up. No disappoints yet. Is there a good book or a good source of information on wood. Looking for information what different trees are good to use for building boats, for instance, or cabinets, or chairs. How to take green wood and dry it? That type information. Thanks for your help

Welcome to the forum!

You might find this book interesting, Understanding Wood: A Craftsman's Guide to Wood Technology by R. Bruce Hoadley. I received a copy of this book as a gift, but have not gotten around to reading it yet.

IF you like boat building....you might enjoy reviewing the threads below where Alan built a boat using his Shopsmith and roamer46 is finishing up a restoration of a 1969 Chris Craft Roamer 46 motor yacht using his Shopsmith:

if you are near one of the woodworks stores or or similar wood working stores you should be able to find about anything you need as far as literature .
