What is this plastic piece at top of a 500 table leg

Post by edma194 »

Took this Model 500 table assembly out of a box of assorted parts that came with circa 1985 Shopsmith and saw there's a plastic mystery piece affixed to the top of the rear table leg. It's notched in the top for a trunion to turn with it there, don't know if there's one for the front leg too or if that fits on a Model 510 and later table. It's made out of plastic, attaches with two hex cap screws, but not 5/32", the heads are the same size as the screws in an iron bandsaw table keeper. The black plastic knob doesn't screw in very far. Note the dovetail channel in the side view.

No idea what this is for except helping to retain sawdust on the table. Photos aren't great. If nobody identifies it right away I'll clean it up and post some better ones.

The saw blade cover/gaurd attaches to that piece.

It is part of the bracket for the upper saw guard.

Something wrong with that? I had a post disappear the other day, so I started posting, making sure my post was there, then editing. I do that a lot in similar type of applications. I like to get the basics written down, take a look at what I've got, then go in and edit.

If you do a preview before you post it will show what the post looks like with the attachments and you can edit from the same screen. When you get it the way you want it hit submit and you don't have to go back and edit.

Sure, but if something goes wrong, there goes the post. Measure twice, cut long, sand it down.
