Disc sander vs Belt Sander

Re: Disc sander vs Belt Sander
Is there a reason for both ? Yes , can you use either for the same job ? yes. compare a hand plane with a electric planer to a orbital sander ? a belt sander can make sanding flat surfaces easier , a strip sander can make sanding small pieces much safer than a disc sander or belt sander . you can DIY a belt sander table using a hand held belt sander . youtube has a lot of videos on making your own tools . Well I went to reply here but figured what I wrote should really go in an "ADMIN" room posting which I did as I was talking about my newly acquired 510 SS
Trying to decide to keep or sell the NIB belt sander I got with the SS.

Keep it. I read you other post --congrats. There are things you will do with the belt sander that you would be hard pressed to with the disc or any handheld. Likewise, there are things you can do with the disc you would be unable to do with the belt. And the random orbits are great, but they don't do what the disc or belt do (and vice versa).

Re: Disc sander vs Belt Sander
Since you already have the Belt Sander - keep it. Selling it would, at best, get you half of what it costs new even though it is NIB. Later if you decide you want one you will likely end up paying what you sold yours for to get a used one or full price to get another new one. Buying a used one can come with a need for repairs and/or maintenance which can add to the cost. If sometime later you find you have not really used it than consider selling it. For now I say give it a chance.

I just came up with a need for it in the near future so it stays in the shop
