Horizontal Bore Max Offset

Post by DavidMcM »

Can someone tell me the maximum offset for the Shopsmith Mark 7 horizontal bore drill centerline to the table surface?

Roughly 2-3/16" using the main table. There is a removable plastic guard on the table tie bar, removing that would get you a bit more. I'm estimating another 3/16". You could conceivably get more in a setup using the extension table in lieu of the main table, but I haven't done that.

If you need more, you can turn the table 90 degrees and rest the wood on the fence and clamp it to the table,
I used that method on my 10ER to drill the center hub on this spinning wheel I made for my daughter.

Thanks everyone! I updated the figure below with the dimension. I also understand now that I can tilt the table 90 deg for added flexibility.
