Saw blade arbor

Post by tom85 »

I have recently inherited a Mark V Shopsmith, I'm having fun learning how to use it. I am aware that there are numerous upgrades that can be done and will probably get around to doing those, but I was wondering if there is a 30mm arbor for the saw blades as I already have plenty of blades and dado cutters that size, but nothing other than a single rusty blade that came with the machine. I've never seen a 30mm arbor for the Shopsmith. Your arbor is most likely 1-1/4", but you'd need to check to confirm. There are new and used 5/8" arbors readily available from Shopsmith and ebay, and I'm sure others. There are 30mm to 5/8" bushings available. I've used 1" to 5/8" bushings they seem adequate but not ideal for a dado.

If you do buy a new arbor for your Mark V, note that there are two versions available for compatibility with your table system. Or more accurately, compatibility with your lower saw guard. The shorter arbors are for Model 500 (and pre-500) models, the longer are for 505, 510, and 520.

tom85,

I haven't seen a 30 mm arbor for use on a Shopsmith. I believe I have a least one of every arbor ever made for the Shopsmith by the companies making them since their introduction in 1947. None have been metric.

There was a discussion on the Forum before about the 30 mm size arbors. Not sure if it will help or not. viewtopic.php?p=93280#p93280
