See if you can get a good picture of the dates on the plane bed or just spell them out. I can then help with the dateing. I love old planes, I have about thirty all wood And have collected 3 thru 6 both smooth and the C bottom medal ones. This collecting is very addicting just like SS only faster to rehab and you can store a lot more in your garage. Good Luck DOW indy

Looks like an type 13 . 1925 thru 1928 being a " BAILEY" it could be some kind special series (checkered hold down) also the tote looks a little off to me. You have a nice little smoothing plane, enjoy dow indy

After doing some research it appears the #5 "could be" a mixture of parts spread through the years , according to information on a website the cap lock may be older than the plane body , Hooded w/ Bottom Lever Fine Cross Hatching 1886-1900 , the frog may not belong to the body as well . the history between Bailey , Stanley ,Sargent and others seem to be rather intertwined . https://virginiatoolworks.com/tools/sta ... ype-study/ , one website described Stanley actually mixing parts as they acquired other makers patens ,I use to believe the key hole and the crescent moon style cap locks and markings determined the age , however , after doing the research it may not be completely so . a working man's plane may be a mixture of what ever they had when they needed it .
