Pulled out my Mini Sled for some Tiny Drawers

Post by nuhobby »

This will be taking a while... Making 6 new drawers for a derelict Gerstner case I bought!

As Carol Burnett would have said, the old case was Completely Hollow:

I used a piece of poster-board to draw out basic rough dimensions for the drawer fronts:

I found some prettier pieces of Red Oak to arrange thus:

Now I am making parts of the locking rabbets for the drawer fronts. This sled is one I used to use for making Pen Blanks:

Similarly, cutting some slots for the sides of the drawers, rough for now:

Have a great weekend!

And, I just have to do this kind of fine-tuning and carcass-fitting for 24 corners coming up....

Very nice! Just curious...where do you find old Gerstner cabinets like this? I haven't searched much, but they always seem to be hard to find.

The short answer is, I overpay on eBay... Yeah, stuff like this is just therapy for me, and I would fall flat on my face if running a business. I've been addicted to eBay since 2008 and have about 2000 transactions :o

It's a ploy used by the shipping conglomerate to increase revenue.

A related activity is PCH.

Well, it's a slow journey, but 4 drawers are glued-up now, trimmed very finely to fit. All drawer-fronts and all drawer-backs have been extracted from one oak board that has seen the SS Bandsaw a number of times!

Thanks!

Almost all structural work is done now. I had to re-laminate some veneer for the back, and I got some knobs in for the drawers:
