Eagle Head
Carved this from Mahogany. I used a redish mahogany stain to highlight the head. Finished with a satin spar urethane.
I know the iris of the Eagle does not look forward like a human eye but I thought it gave it a more aggressive look. And it was done for a military family.

Very nice carving work. My Wife does wood carving and she did an eagle a couple of years ago too. I like the look of your eagle's eye.

Re: Eagle Head
Very nice looking. Can you tell us more about the process of carving it? Was it all hand tools, knives and chisels?

Beautiful work. I love the fine detail on the lower feathers.

Re: Eagle Head
Hello Edma 194, I started with cutting a 2”x10”x10” of mahogany with my SS. Drew the out line for the head and with mallet and chisel lowed the area around the head about a inch. Then with a combination of full size and palm chisels shaped and detailed the carving. Made the frame out of poplar and applied the finish.

Very impressive. You have an eye as good as that eagle's.

Re: Eagle Head
So, the carving itself was all done old-school. Either way, impressive.
