Good Idea Gary, but you would have to sand the cylinder before applying finish. I think the color would be different on the relatively rough surface left by turning. Although I think my tools are sharp, they aren't sharp enough to produce a sanded surface.

Good point, Chuck, sometimes I don't think these things all the way through. Although sanding on the lathe goes so quick anyway I'll probably still try it.
