poly v belt
I have a model 520. A belt is broken. I believe it is the poly v belt. The number on the belt is 504170. The exploded diagram of the headstock on page B-6 of the Shopsmith Instruction manual shows it to be Ref No. 55 with a part # of 504170. However when I put that number in the product index search engine it returns a number of 521681. Are these numbers the same poly v belt? Is it difficult to replace?

Re: poly v belt
Since the search function takes you there you can safely assume they are. Verification from CS would not hurt.
Easy? Not really, but not terribly difficult either. Biggest problem will be the 'fear' of the unknown. It will involve removing the drive sleeve and the speed control and the control sheave. Might as well include the idler shaft etc. as well.
I would get a new motor belt at the same time.
This should give you a general idea. http://www.shopsmithacademy.com/SS_Arch ... rn_Pt3.htm
If it cooperates! May be a dead horse!
This one is better anyway. Just do not do 'everything' Nick did!

This may help. http://www.shopsmith.com/ss_forum/viewtopic.php?t=3765
Since you may have a later 'model', the idler shaft and eccentric may be different.(closed bottom and no set screw on the eccentric). Also an additional retaining screw/washer.
Very explicit instructions will accompany the belt(s).

Re: poly v belt
Thanks JPG. CS verified that the number change made by the search engine was if fact the correct number. Parts on order.
CS did recommend that I look at a videio showing the process on their website. Under woodworking resources- sawdust session #4 shows the process for replacing the parts. Will look at it as soon as I can, but will also look at the items you referenced too.
Thanks again.
