JMHO, but tis better to teach how to safely handle risk than to teach reliance on 'procedures' and safety 'equipment'.

I think as a society we have gone overboard trying to make everyone 'safe' and have ignored common sense handling of risk.

No it is not likely a good idea to do such in a broadly distributed video, but that is a 'lawyer'(ambulance chaser type) issue.

wow I have made those from walnut for years and would never attempt to do it with out face arm and body protection, and even a apron of some kind . seen to many things happen . not only that but there is something about the tools he is using that throws up flags , he appears to be pushing rather hard , he might want to sharpen his tools a bit ? I got to meet him some years ago when they still had their showroom in Dayton. I thought I saw somewhere that he was still doing demos. I am sure in his career he made hundreds of these all around the country and probably still does.

Come on guys you would bitch if we hung you with a new rope. :D
He had glasses on, none of us know if they we safety glasses or not.
The rest of the comments about no apron and etc. is just nit picking.

You want Shopsmith to be more proactive and when they do something you Monday morning quarterback it to death. Lighten up!
