So, this confirms that you have original Shopsmith planer blades (tapered), correct? If so, why not sharpen them instead of purchasing new ones? Just a thought...

P/N 505640 is the 4" jointer knives, not the 12" planer knives.

shoedo,

I do not know why the picture garys posted of the planer knife has the number 513364 and not 505982. 513364 is a newer number and when searching for it you are referred back to P/N 505982 as shown in the online catalog. 513364 being a newer number, my guess is the P/N was changed for the planer knives for some reason but the catalog and parts lists have not been updated so you are referred back to the old part number. Normally when entering an old part number you are referred to the new one.

I did just looked at my extra set of Planer Knives. The knives themselves have the number 513364 etched on to them just like garys but the package has 505982.

Over the years part numbers going back to the original parts from 1947 have changed. All part numbers have changed twice. First in November 1951 and later in early 1964. In 1964 the part number change was to the six digit numbers starting with 505. There are different reasons individual part numbers have changed over time. Sometimes the part has changed some. Others may have changed because they come from a new source. Yes, Shopsmith does outsource the manufacture of some items. When I say part I also mean assemblies like an arbor for example.

If you have been reading my thread Shopsmith Model 10's What When and Where one of the recent posts was Numbers, numbers and more numbers on page 8. It has a little more insight on why so many numbers are related to Shopsmith tools and parts.

My thoughts exactly as I did take a photo of the rectangular box they were in but I am currently unable to upload photos. I just tried to upload a photo as an attachment but was unsuccessful.

FYI...As of today, Shopsmith has planer and jointer knives on sale for a limited time. At $87.99 for a set of planer knives, the price is a little more palatable than their regular price. Still about 2x the cost of non-tapered planer knives for a DeWalt planer, but worth it I think to have Shopsmith replacements if you need them:

My new set is exactly the same as yours. The package has the 505982 number on it and that is the number I ordered. The knives themselves have that 513364 number etched onto them. Either of those numbers will get you a set of knives from Shopsmith if you order them.

I just looked at my spare set. I bought the Pro Planer new in early 2003. The date on the tag is Dec 2002. I probably bought the spare set of knives the first time they came on sale after I bought the planer. So 2003 or 2004. They have the same numbers, 505982 on the tube label and 513364 on the knives themselves.

The planer parts diagram also shows the blade part number as 513364, so the other number, 505982, is for a set of three.
