1997 ShopSmith Mark V 510 advertised as “ShopSmith Planer with Lathe Attachment, very large and on wheels”, for $200. It’s located between Long Beach and Anaheim, California, just south of L.A.

That shouldn't last long.

This one isn’t a steal. Unless, that is, you value your time doing restorations at more than maybe $5 per hour. But it is mighty purty — think restorations by Skip Campbell or maybe J.S. Burger.

And don’t forget to check out the included accessories.

When’s the last time you saw a 10ER listed by a friggin’ pawn shop? No relationship to the seller, although I’m tempted myself. It’s only an hour away from me.

Any opinions as to whether this is a restoration or a mint-condition original? I’m leaning toward the latter, based on the condition of the literature and the accessory packaging, plus the minor paint scratches on the jigsaw.

Although a nice looking restoration not all the parts are original to that particular Model 10ER. The Belt Cover is an earlier one mostly found on the 10E or early 10ER. This Model 10ER has the last Headstock version 7 and should have the later Belt Cover. The Blade Guard is the last version but is missing the splitter. If original makes the 10ER a later one made but I cannot read the serial number. For the Jig Saw I cannot see if it has the coupler to connect it to the Quill's spindle or if it has the spacer for the Mounting Bolt for use without the upper arm. It's table insert is in the box of parts. Other nice accessories included. The boxes of some of the accessories are in good looking shape too. I wonder what the yellow tape is for on the fence.

As for the price vs. value that would be up to the buyer to decide.

Below is a picture of one of my more recent restorations for comparison. Note the Belt Cover is the correct version for this 10ER. The Blade Guard is the previous version 2 of 3. It has a 3/4 H. P. Motor and is shown with all the accessories it would come with from the factory. No Speed Changer or Jig Saw to compare in the picture.

Here's a 520 for $1000. It looks clean. If it runs as well as it looks, and it comes with all the standard components, and you really want a 520, then I think this is a pretty good deal. 520s don't show up for sale all that often around here but they're usually asking around $1500 or more for them.

edma194,

The Mark V advertised as a 520 was upgraded from an earlier Mark V. Note it has a "B" headstock with a toggle on/off switch as opposed to the "C" headstock with the red key safety switch which came out in 1991 before the 520 was introduced in 1999. This Mark V has been made into a shorty too.

The Shopsmith tools listed in JPG's link look like a good deal for anyone looking to get several Shopsmith tools and lives near upper New York State.

The Lathe Duplicator lists for $598. Here's one for $150 that claims to be unused:

I saw it was a shorty, but it can be extended back to original length. I didn't notice the switch though, the headstock is pretty old but if it has the 2 bearing quill should be worth it.
