Thanks for taking the time to do that, I’m sure John will appreciate it.
I think you and John own the only two pivot plates on earth. I’ll take a look at these and let you know if I have any additional questions.

Thanks again.

There are more out there but they just don't show up that often. I actually have 2 and the only part I need for a second complete set is the 5" pulley since the 2nd one I have is broken. So here is the good news for you about the Model 4E Jointer. It needed the special Headrest Mounting Kit for attaching it to the Model 10's. There were likely around 10,000 Model 4E Jointers made based on the serial numbers I have seen. The lowest is S/N 1134 and the highest is S/N 10974 with the lowest Model 620 Jointer S/N 11458 that I have seen. I believe the serial numbers continued when the change from the 4E to the 620 was made. When Magna Engineering Corporation introduced the Mark 5 in March of 1954 it was ready to use the Model 620 Jointer which was already in production. I don't know if the Model 620 Jointer was available for purchase before the Mark 5 was introduced. The Model 620 Jointer still had the mounting holes for use on the Model 10E and 10ER. The only change between the Model 4E Jointer and the Model 620 Jointer was the addition of the holes for the mounting posts in the Base/Out Feed Table. The Special Headrest Mounting Kit was still available for mounting the Model 620 Jointer on the Model 10's for some time until and maybe after the second Power Mount Adapter Kit was made available for using SPT's or Add-a-Tool as they were known back then for use on the Model 10's. Any Model 10E or 10ER Owner that added the 620 Jointer to their Shopsmith before the 2nd Power Mount Adapter Kit came out used the Special Headrest Mounting Kit so there are more of those out there than Model 4E Jointers.

Of course the bad news is, like the one yours originally had, the plate is the part that is easiest to break. If you are able to make a workable replacement plate let us know and include pictures. I would like to see that.

That lowest serial number at 11458 Model 620 Jointer I mentioned before was one I restored 4 years ago. It was made prior to the introduction of the Mark 5. It was with a Mark 5 made in 1957 so they were not purchased together by the original owner of either. It could have been originally used on a Model 10E or 10ER but I do not know either ones history. Interesting bit on the Jointer it was painted gray not Green when I got it but had been repainted at some previous point. I did not find out if it was originally green or gray since the paint was in good condition so not stripped off. Now I wish I hadn't resold it after I restored it.

Serial 2792. Guess I’ve got an early one. Thanks for the info.

Exactly the same here. BTW, that is a beautiful 4E you have.

I agree with John, your 4E looks great. Nice touch with the red paint added to the guard's logo. I noticed in the pictures you have it sitting on a piece of plywood. Is it simply sitting there or is it attached to the plywood using the three bolt down holes in the base? Those holes are there to allow the Jointer to be mounted to a homemade table for separate use as a stand alone tool. That could be a start for a temporary mounting for it to use until you can get a replacement for your broken plate. If you do use it for a base do add a hole below the cutter head for chips/dust to go out. That could give you some dust collection not normally found with the Model 4E Jointer.

Below is my 4E Jointer S/N 2145 in front of one of my Jig Saws, both sitting on their storage platforms I made. The Jointer's was designed to protect the mounting plate attached to it while not on my Model 10ER. A slot cut in the platform allows the plate to still be attached to the Jointer during storage. It is made from a simple piece of extra 2" x 8" wood I had left over with blocks on each end to raise it up off the storage cart it sits on and allows the needed clearance for the mounting plate. The socket drive handle and socket on the left side are for tightening the bolt for attaching it the Model 10ER. Having it there always keeps it handy when needed. The picture does not show that they are stored under Shopsmith tool covers. A Regular Jointer cover and the 610 Jig Saw cover works well for the Model 10's Jig Saw too.

John, am I correct that you also need a replacement 5" pulley? I have been watching for quite a while but haven't seen one yet. An option would be finding a new 5" pulley but it would have to have a large enough center hub area to allow the 13/16" bore needed. I have a single 5" Pulley but it's center hub is not large enough.

Yes, I only have one 5" pulley set. I have not seen another since I got the one I have a couple of years ago.

No, it is just sitting on a piece of plywood on top of one of my 10e’s table. I will manufacture a swivel plate soon. Have several ideas and drawings now since you provided the dimensions. Hey, I have a jigsaw similar to yours, however it does not have the built-in pulley cover as yours does. Those look really nice, nice storage idea too.

There were two versions of the Jig Saw made for the Model 10's. The first was the one without the built in belt guard and its gearbox cover plate has four screws to hold on the cover plate. The later Jig Saw like mine shown in the picture of my previous post has the belt guard, which really doesn't cover much of the belt. It has two screws that hold the gearbox cover in place. The biggest improvement for the second Jig Saw was the gearbox was no longer open to the rest of the lower frame. The early lower frame was open to the gearbox and saw dust could get in there. My other Jig Saw for the Model 10's is in the picture below. It is currently disassembled and waiting for restoration.

Unlike the Jointer made for the Shopsmith Model 10E and 10ER these Jig Saws had no serial number. The original version was part number 134-1X and when the lower frame was changed they still used the same number. When all part numbers changed in November 1951 their part number changed to 11 100. They were always Model Number A-34. If you want to know more about the Model 10's you can read my thread Shopsmith Model 10's What When and Where if you have not already. It is at the link below.

Thanks again for the info, you are a wealth of knowledge on these machines. Here are a couple photos of my newly refurbished jigsaw.
