My adult kids have made it clear to me that they and their generation think that bars of soap are disgusting and are just another antiquated thing that us old people use and do, like wearing wrist watches, having landlines and taking pictures of people other than ourselves and our food!
RFGuy wrote: Fri Jan 15, 2021 1:59 pm Yeah, I can see your point. I enjoyed Nick's video, but I also wondered while watching it whether it would be as applicable today or not. I prefer bar soap myself, but I am sure I am in the minority. Antibacterial soaps aren't healthy and I am allergic to most liquid soaps, but those seem to be popular.
Then don't call it a soap saver. Call it a coaster for your cellular phone. Or call it shelf art. It does not matter.

Who cares what others think of it as a soap saver. The main point is, it gets your butt off the sofa or easy chair (whatever you plant your butt on in front of the television), and gets you out in the shop doing something!

I think that's the whole point... Right?

Could be. There are lots of things I don’t get, like touch-free Apple Pay at the McDonalds drive through before they hand me my food, which has been handled by six people before it makes it to my hands.

:D :D :D

FWIW, I have been using Dial Gold bar soap my entire life in the shower. We do use the battery powered touchless liquid soap dispensers at the bathroom sinks and the kitchen sink. They are just very convenient.

Now ask why they are 'popular'?

Madison avenue hype.

Oh the ignorance of the 'hip'.

This is definitely not another chevron cutting board.
Nick fashioned this board from strips of contrasting wood carefully arranged to create the optical illusion of peering into a long tunnel…sorta.
There are other effects too, and it’s hard to decide which one to focus on…if you can focus at all. Have fun trying!

And if you’d like to make this cutting board, the plans are online at the

Here’s an innovative twist on the popular Infinity Cube – and Infinity Cube Mantle Clock. Author/Craftsman Nick Engler shows how to build a small infinity cube (actually, it’s more of a rectangular infinity box) and then mounts an electronic pendulum clock in it – complete with electronic chimes. Extremely contemporary and absolutely beautiful to look at.

And if you’d like to make this infinity cube clock, the plans are online at the

A Note from Nick: If you watch this video and find yourself wondering why I ignored every rule of good joinery when assembling the clock case, let me tell you the clock is made thermally-modified quartersawn red oak. That's how I was able to glue the clock face directly to the sides without allowing for expansion and contraction. The combination of thermal modification and quartersawn grain reduced the rate of movement to well under 2%. We're going to produce a video on thermally-modified wood in a few weeks -- it's a very different animal.

Nick's channel is truly a "must watch" for me. Always something to learn, even if the project itself doesn't appeal to me. I do like this clock. Scott

Maybe...? Or will it be "Wood Rules"...? It was wrote on "the blackboard". Anyone who has seen any of the old "Sawdust Sessions" knows what the blackboard is, (hint, hint).
