Rip Thin Strips Safe & Accurately with the CRAZY-SIMPLE Homemade Jig/Fixture: "Jack the Stripper"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9Rt3IkcW08
If it haven't happened yet, you will eventually have a project that require the ripping of thin strips, and this super-simple jig/fixture (or is it a fixture/jig?) will not only make that task easy and accurate, but best of all will be some of the safest cutting you've ever done.
To illustrate the uses of wood strips I "borrowed" a couple pics from the interwebs, including this amazing canoe: https://imgur.com/a/95BPk and the beautiful Kayak shown in this build blog: http://cedarlattice.blogspot.com Be sure to check them out.
- 0:00 Intro
- 0:13 Why do we need to rip thin strips?
- 0:31 The Challenge
- 1:02 The problems with "Other" methods
- 2:23 Introducing "Jack, the Stripper"
- 4:25 "Jack" in use
- 4:40 Design details
- 5:10 Don't miss "STUMPED"
- 6:27 Full-on production mode, with live demo

Re: Scott's My Growth Rings youtube channel & website
I believe that this was my most over-engineered and least useful jigs ever!
Re: Scott's My Growth Rings youtube channel & website
I made a similar jig to yours (the sliding feature) years ago for cutting box joints; except using only a single miter gauge. Wanting to make box joints of various widths with one jig. Then I decided to revert back to my original jig for that type of joint; which was a copy of a jig Norm Abram used a few times on The New Yankee Workshop.thedovetailjoint wrote:I believe that this was my most over-engineered and least useful jigs ever!
Sometimes it's much quicker to make multiple simple jigs, than one complicated jig that tries to do multiple tasks.

Re: Scott's My Growth Rings youtube channel & website
We’ll make that happen one of these days.
Using a Bosch blade on a Shopsmith Bandsaw? How to measure a bandsaw for the correct blade. Neat LED
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YabimMl-a3s
So much to cover today! How can you know the correct length to order for your bandsaw? It's actually a simple matter of some 6th grade geometry and a little addition. Also, I found a neat magnetic base LED light that you can use an all your tools and we test an off-the-shelf Bosch bandsaw blade on the Shopsmith bandsaw. This Bosch blade sells for less than half the price of the TimberWolf blade, but it the savings worth it?
Don't forget to leave your questions, comments, and Cheapshots below and we'll address them during our mid-week video.
0:00 - Intro
0:58 - Not all "similar" saw are exactly the same
1:50 - How to measure a bandsaw to determine the correct blade length
4:35 - A super-handy LED light (Link below)
5:52 - Comparing the cut of a well-used stock Shopsmith blade to a new Bosch blade
7:47 - So, does it fit? Is it false economy?
