Re: Possible Problems

Post by jsburger »

I have had a more severe problem than Dusty's. This is what I sent to admin today.

"This started the day or day after you announced the software update to
address the SPAM problem.

When I log in I do not get any HTML. It loads in plain text with lines of
underlined links for just about everything. I can see new posts as links.
Some things are missing. As an example, if I click on the link for the user
control panel there is no link to change the board style. I can post
messages but there is no link to attach pictures so I can't send you a
screen shot of what it looks like.

I have deleted all board cookies but that did not do anything. I use
Firefox but I have tried MS Explorer, MS Edge and Chrome with the same
results. I have also tried on two different computers with the same result.

If I don't log in all is normal. Everything comes up in HTML. Of course I
can't see which posts are unread or post anything so that is not the
answer.

The Forum is pretty much useless the way it is now. Please help."

Something is screwed up and it appears to be on the SS end since multiple computers show the same result. This is very frustrating since the forum is almost unusable now. I hope Admin responds. Waiting patiently.

So maybe it is a "Redmond" problem.

Everything is working fine for me.

I think a first step is to clear the cache, if you don't know how to do that then look it up for your browser. This is different then cookies and would be more likely to be the problem.

That sounds a lot like what happened to me...I am also using Firefox, and Win10. I did not connect it up with the Spam upgrade, but now that you mention it, that is when it began. Somehow around that time my preference of board style got changed. It might be that your plain text screen is the Prosilver Board Style. After my Board Style got changed, when I clicked on a link, nothing seemed to change. But after a while - by which I mean it took 2 days before I figured it out - I noticed that if I scrolled all the way to the bottom of the screen after i clicked on a link there would be new links there. So after you click on User Control Panel you might try scrolling to the bottom of the board and see if there is a link to Edit Global Settings. Click that and then under Board Style you can submit the change to return your Board Style to Shopsmith.

I hope this is helpful.

Ed
I don't think it is the cache. as I said I have tried Firefox, MS Explorer, MS Edge and Chrome all with the same result. I have also tried Firefox on a completely seperate somputer with no luck.

I have done that and saw no extra links but I will try again and look closer.

Well, I tried what you said again Ed and there is no change to the links at the bottom of the page. No link to change the board style.
