Continuing a Multifunction Tool Tradition

Post by sehast »

I saw this video and it reminded me of the development of the Shopsmith. Not quite as many tools in this case but some interesting modular design ideas by a new generation of innovators. A new twist is that he is really selling the plans for you to build it yourself.

I guess he switched over to metalworking? I've seen his channel before in the past. He was kind of doing woodworking and improvements/inventions on existing woodworking tools. One example is he used threaded rod to make a poor man's version of an Incra positioner on his tablesaw. I also remember a video from him in the past where he was talking about giving it all up (his YouTube channel, his shop, his tools, etc.). I guess he changed his mind and pivoted to metalworking instead.

He has videos showing the entire build of the first version of the belt grinder and attachments he's made. I'm working on a jig similar to his radius jig for the belt grinder to use with the disk sander on a Shopsmith. He's a fascinating young man with a good eye for design.
