For sale/wanted section?

Post by AmishMachinist »

Anyone thought about creating a for sale/wanted section on here? Would be nice to see if anyone else has spare parts for sale or if anyone is looking for odd parts and such.

I’ve been looking for a 10 ER original bench, or a decent original set of legs with casters. I’ve checked EBay multiple times, haven’t seen any recently.

Also if anyone is looking for a shopsmith there are quite a few listed around Philadelphia on Craigslist.

Here is where we list Shopsmiths for sale: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=15055&start=2060

It's a 'sticky' thread at the top of the Community forum.

The sponsor of this forum (SS) does not allow a trading post here. I assume it has to do with possible legal liability with used stuff over which they have no control.

The sponsor has been tolerating posts that reveal a desire to either purchase or sell specific items, but further communication regarding any transaction must be carried out by Private Messaging.

Greetings,
The 10E/ER's did not come with a bench, just a blueprint plan to build your own from wood. The metal legs and casters were sold separately as optional accessories. Note, with the later, squared off, pivot base the bench can be a few inches shorter.

Where Ron said above
Note, with the later, squared off, pivot base the bench can be a few inches shorter.
He is referring to the bench length for either the wood bench plans that were provided with the Model 10's and the length of the wood top for the metal bench ends. The length for the Model 10E and early Model 10ER having the longer base and 4 bolt headrest was to be 60" long. The bench for the later Model 10ER with the shorter base and 2 bolt headrest was to be 57" long. Of course custom benches could be whatever the builder desired.

As for finding the metal bench ends and retractable caster sets, patience will help and can save some money. One set I bought was from someone who turned his Model 10 into a dedicated drill press and didn't want to use the metal bench ends. That set I bought for a very reasonable price.

Do know that the metal bench ends came out before the retractable casters and the early ones did not have caster mounting holes pre-drilled. If you are wanting to get a set of bench ends to match when your Model 10 was made there was 3 different angle brackets made for them. I am not sure of the exact order or time they were used. One was a round tube with flattened/rounded ends. Another was angle iron with rounded ends and the 3rd was straight cut ends. At some point the metal 2" caster wheels they used changed.

As JPG said Shopsmith has made this site available to us at no charge but does not allow directly selling tools or parts here. They are in the business of making and selling tools and parts for the Shopsmith line. Keeping them in business keeps this forum available. They even sell 2 parts that go back to the original Shopsmith Model 10E. The rubber quill bumper ring and the quill return spring are the same as the ones used on current Mark series tools.
