I see you got the table insert for a dado set, was the dado included? Also, if you got the molder knives then there should be a molder head to mount them in.

One thing that might help the PO are some photos of the parts you are missing, that way he knows what to look for. When I got my ShopSmiths there were a few missing parts, and it helped MickyD remember what those parts looked like as he was cleaning out his garage, and he had intimate knowledge of those tools, so I know that can help a lot, especially if the PO is not too familiar with the machine.

No dado head included, nor molder head. The person I got it from is the PO's son. He got it when his dad passed and hasn't done anything with it (except maybe curse it for being in the way ;-) I'll follow up with him (and return the rope he loaned me to help tie it down because I forgot ratchet straps - D'oh!) but I suspect that what I got might be all there is left. But the price was absolutely right and now I have an excuse to check out the flea market.....

I don't believe there has been any change in the Way Tube Tie Bar over the years so any one should work as a replacement but greenie parts are still pretty easy to find. That way you may not need to paint it to match. Getting it painted to match the original Greenie color would be difficult and require a custom blended color of that green in a hammered finish paint.

There is differences with other parts which is important when looking for replacement parts. As an example, when the Mark 5 came out the bench tubes on the Greenies were larger in diameter than later Mark 5/V's. Because of this not only would replacement tubes need to be larger diameter but the base and headrest mounting holes for the bench tubes are larger sized too. I am not sure if any of the Greenie painted Mark 5's have the smaller diameter Bench Tubes. The Bench Tubes changed from 1-7/8” diameter to 1-3/4” diameter around the time your Mark 5 was made. The paint color changed to Goldie sometime between March and May of 1960. If yours has the 1-3/4" Bench Tubes I would like to know along with it's serial number for reference. The bolt on fence rail for the Main Table occurred around the beginning of 1960 and I believe at the same time the extra Table Slot was added.

As Marc suggested pictures can be of great help in identifying missing parts for someone who is not very familiar with Shopsmiths. When I first inherited my Father-in-laws Mark V 520 which was my first Shopsmith I spent hours looking through the shop area of his barn and the entire barn for that matter looking for missing parts. Studying the online catalog and the manuals to learn what parts go to a Shopsmith and what they look like helped me find many misplaced parts in his barn.

If it doesn't have a rip fence, which is not shown in the picture, that will be one of the first purchases you may want to look at. There are two fences available for the Mark 5/V with the original Table System, aka Model 500. The original style fence and a newer upgraded fence shown at the link below. The original style should be cheaper to find on the used market but being on the used market do use due diligence in assessing it's condition before buying. There can be problems with it or it could be in excellent condition like the never used one I purchased a while back. That original style fence is shown in the picture below.

Hi Russ,
Thanks for the info!

The tubes are indeed 1.75". SN 362819

That revised rip fence isn't as expensive as I'd feared, but I'd still rather not have to buy one if the original can be found. My hopes aren't high but one never knows.....

I have an abundance of 500 fences. I'll send you one but it will need to be cleaned and lubed. It will be the original style. I'll need a couple of days to pack it up.

Since we're discussing various parts, here's (to me at least) a whatzit. Is this even a SS part?

Is that a 1/4" rod? If so I think it could be a Miter Gauge Stop Rod seen on this page:
